Course Description

Initially we will cover the underlying structure for defining roles. We will look at where the responsibilities arise from, their varying terminology across jurisdictions and the progression towards national consistency and mutual recognition.


We'll focus on the responsibilities of the various persons involved. Under the Planned Exposure Code* there are multiple roles with responsibilities for radiation safety in planned exposures. We will introduce those roles and the responsibilities, and the obligations placed by the legislation and Codes of Practice on each of them.

Describe the various terms across Australian jurisdictions for regulatory approval for a:

  • user of a source of ionising radiation.
  • business / entity conducting work using a source of ionising radiation.


Identify and describe the key parties with responsibilities for radiation safety and radiation protection.
